  1. Nature lore: bristlecone pines are the longest living non-cloned organisms on earth (many live over 4000 years) and the Bristlecone National Monument contains the oldest known bristlecone pine (5063 years).

  2. Wow, that's an incredible bit of living history,Andi,I do envy you - must add it to the wish list!

Flitting in briefly in between a surprising number of foreign trips, what with the USA in May, the Austrian Tyrol in July, last week in the Vendee, in Western France, and in a week or so, a trip to Bavaria to see Mad King Ludwig's fairytale castle, said to be the model for the Disney castle!

So au revoir and auf wiedersehen!

    1. It's a pretty drive up it going through a narrow canyon and then up (and up and up) a twisty road with views of the Sierra Nevada mountains to the west.

But sounds like your having travels well worth envy on my side. :)

  3. That's quite a lifespan—a lot of weird stuff has happened in 5000 years!

Woke up at 8, not rarin' to go but no longer in need of sleep. Mason and the wife will soon join me, from the stirrings I'm hearing.

  5. Thanks for the good wishes for my mom everyone. She's doing well, slowly moving more and more with her new bionic hip. And no more weird passing out spells.

Jen, I'll be back to talk when you finish OITNB.

    1. Yay for ongoing consciousness! Has anyone considered downloading the sound effects from The Bionic Woman onto some pocketed handheld device and then pushing the play button whenever she moves? ;p

OITNB: I just watched F*cksgiving last night and will probably wrap up the rest of the series today/tomorrow.

  6. We got 2 1/3 inches of rain yesterday evening which brought our total for August to just over 3 inches. Yay for the last chance efforts.

  7. Bionic Woman. I love it.

It started so innocently. "Can you take Mason to Wyatt's birthday party? It's from 12 to 2." It's like a two-hour drive there, and was approaching noon already, but Mason and Wyatt (2nd cousins) really like each other. Surprise! The party was from 10 to 12. Drove through a very noisy thunderstorm on the way back, made noisier by the minor detail of convertible tops having no sound-proofing (Mason did not want). Wyatt's mom had her phone turned off, so I left her a voicemail. She called back, and insisted on bringing Wyatt up to see Mason. Both the kids were happy with that.

  9. Good afternoon and happy Mother's day to everyone.

It has been hot, hot and hot down here.

Mary I'm glad to hear your mother is doing better. I never did get the full story, but I take it she fainted and broke a hip. In the last couple of years FMom was falling a good bit. She used to get mad as hell at me because I told her she has so much padding that she should just bounce back up. I know, what a terrible son. ;)

Nicolaslade I envy you going to Neuschwanstein. While I lived in Germany I went there 3 times. Be sure to get out of the castle and go to Marie's Bridge, or Pöllatbrücke. Wonderful view!

Well everyone enjoy the rest of the holiday and be careful.

    Whit
