  1. "Bald patches: Nature wears them a lot better than you do."

  2. Wow, you are good ... and so early in the morning.

Nature: like a little kid with crayons.

  3. Nature's Palette would be the grooviest collection of Crayolas ever made. It would have colors like Cayman Island Caribbean (blue that changes shades from crystalline to navy), Sedona Sunrise (roughly the same colors as when you make one with tequila), and Milky Way (black with rainbow sparkles).

  4. Jen, you ought to patent that idea. Then sell it to some greedy crayon corporation for an obscene amount of money. Then we can all say we knew you when....

  5. New crayon: Corporate Greed (it's green but it's made from Hawking radiation, the particles emitted from black holes) (so you probably won't want to actually use it) (since you'd be sucked into an alternate universe and then you'd probably need a whole 'nother box of crayons) ;p

  6. Beautiful results from blowing out the background (which is all white anyway)!

My crayon suggestion is Right-Wing Stupidity. It's solid black, the black of a black hole, but to wingnuts it looks lily-white and seems to be labeled "Conventional Wisdom." Just picking it up sucks intelligence out of your brain, so it's another one you don't really want to use.

  7. Larry, wingnuts would never use Nature's Palette anyway since caring about the planet is obviously for hippies and queers and their bleeding heart sympathizers. BUT! We could try to sell Crayola the Universal Truth Collection as well. Every crayon could be called Conventional Wisdom, and they'd all be either black or white (no gray!) (and no mixing!). And they would all be shaped like Kirk Cameron's banana (that's not dirty, I swear), heh.

  8. Wingnuts would segregate the colors. Two more colors: Rapist Red and Silver Bullet.

    Jen, you are brilliant!

Andi, you are so gifted. Completely lovely photos.

Winterhawks won 13 in a row. Wow. Wayne and Wesley won free t-shirts and some bpa free water bottles. Pretty cuhhhlll.

  9. Love these comments. Great new colors.

  10. Still raining like crazy here so my contribution to the Nature crayon set is Downpour, a streaky gray that becomes more like brown when it hits the surface.

  11. I'm in the Georgia woods for the weekend, where it's 80 and sunny. Weird having summer in the midst of winter, but I'm not complaining. The snow pictures are pretty...from here. Sounds like most of the country is having this warm spell - just strange.

Hugs to Maria and Kelly for losing their beloved animal friends. :(

My Broncos lost last night, so now I watch the rest of the playoffs with a little less interest. But I'll still be here, rooting for good games.

Have a great Sunday, y'all - stay safe and dry.

  12. Janet, as soon as I saw Rapist Red I wanted to take a Bic lighter and a can of Aquanet to it. (The best nightstand personal defense system, imo, since no one ever parses these items as a weapon but they can halt a pack of zombies at the bedroom door.) (Well, a small pack.) (If a large pack ever comes after me, I'm probably just zombie chow.)

Downpour is my new favorite crayon. I think it should also smell like wet dirt and always feel slightly damp whenever one picks it up.

  13. omg did Kelly & Laura lose another one? I'm so sorry.

  14. Ohhhh, yeahhhh, the old "lighter + hairspray = flamethrower" combo. The "OH F**K*" factor would probably be enough to send an assailant packing.

Another Nature crayon: Patchy Frost. It's brown, dull green, and off-white.

  15. It was Neil Gaiman's dog but clearly Kelly & Laura were very fond of it too. Very sad for all of them.

  16. OH, my condolences to them all, then. Good gods, do the domestic animals know something about 2013 that the Mayas missed?

Patchy Frost is fantastic; it should also have little random bits of leaf and twig stuck in it for texture.

  17. The Nature set of crayon colors are probably standard issue at Hogwarts. They remind me of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans.

  18. I knew I picked the wrong college.

  19. I think Nature crayon set is a great idea as an iPad app.

  20. Oh no, Cabal has gone? That's awful. I know Kmc was so fond of him and his owner. There's a wonderful story as to how Mr. Gaiman found Cabal and was in many ways rescued by Cabal in doing so. I think that is why I like him so much - his fondness for our furry friends.

Beth, we watched the Broncos last night, too. My son was a wreck over it. But I mus say it was an electric game. Full of big plays. And that's coming from a hockey fan. :)

Chalk Oregon as being one of the states considering arming teachers... crazy gun nuts are winning here. We regulate the heat of coffee but not guns.

    ((((KMc and Mr. G)))))

Shinobi's 14.5 now. We have had some close calls. Hardwood floors are a hard thing for her, too, now. She mostly sits by the front door's floor to ceiling window and watches for any baddies. Her eyesight is mostly gone, arthritis is a biotch. Sometimes when she wags her tail too much it knocks her down. Takes a while for her to settle down and lay down. She rarely sits. Stands or lays. I know the keeper of our furry friends is waiting in the shadows. We have our long, loving talks and pets. My heart is already preparing for the great loss we all know is bound to arrive.

    xoxo my friends.

  22. Heyo, thanks for the hugs, they're very much needed and appreciated at the moment. Been mostly off web for over a week due to travel without laptop followed by losing Cabal. The top five posts on my page right now are all Cabal photos http://kellymccullough.com/ He was one of the great ones. Was there at the vet with him at the end telling him he was loved and rubbing his ears. Friday was a hella bad one and I am seriously going to miss that dog.

Huge sympathy hugs to Maria. Such a hard choice and so sad to have to make it and it never ever gets any easier. (((Maria)))

  23. Oh yeah, FALCONS! It's only the Niners (a team I can't bring myself to hate) between the Birds and the Bowl…

  24. Having dub back a bit farther now, big hugs for Jen as well. (((Jen))) Not liking the way this year is starting on the furry friends front at all.

  25. Thanks Kelly. The only world in which 7 cats isn't enough cats is the world that has a Duckie Jones-shaped hole in it. :(
