Winter to Spring and Beyond

The Force that Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower
by Dylan Thomas

The force that through the green fuse drives the flower
Drives my green age; that blasts the roots of trees
Is my destroyer.
And I am dumb to tell the crooked rose
My youth is bent by the same wintry fever.

The force that drives the water through the rocks
Drives my red blood; that dries the mouthing streams
Turns mine to wax.
And I am dumb to mouth unto my veins
How at the mountain spring the same mouth sucks.

The hand that whirls the water in the pool
Stirs the quicksand; that ropes the blowing wind
Hauls my shroud sail.
And I am dumb to tell the hanging man
How of my clay is made the hangman's lime.

The lips of time leech to the fountain head;
Love drips and gathers, but the fallen blood
Shall calm her sores.
And I am dumb to tell a weather's wind
How time has ticked a heaven round the stars.

And I am dumb to tell the lover's tomb
How at my sheet goes the same crooked worm.

  1. Hi,all. I thought I was up late but I guess not that late.

    Everyone enjoy.

  2. While I was out marching against the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the wars on education, women & children and on the environment...

Obama starts another war in Libya.

Hows that war economy working out for ya? - VFP sign.

Danni's sign was a bit "radical" but many loved it and stated that it was true. She had her photo taken by many, many groups and even the "news". Hers said:

    Obama, the new war criminal.

We did not have a quiet, peaceful, relaxing day yesterday. I wonder how many wars it will take before every citizen feels the urgency?

  3. (waving to everyone)

Janet, I just don't see how we can intervene against every totalitarian regime in the world. It's an endless battle. There's no way to be sure innocent people aren't killed. We totally ignore our own tragedies and disasters. And use the cost of our interventions to justify making things even worse for everyone here. OMG ... a Democratic President listens to advisors about lowering Social Security benefits and raising the retirement age? (shudder)

  4. Katiebird, I hear ya. I don't find anything progressive about this administration. At. All. - some photos of it. One of our signs. My favorite was the little boy's sign who said "This war is older than me" Some more at The Supreme Corporate Judges were all there.

  5. Hey all… hooray for spring! Mason's napping at the moment, so I get to say hello. Unfortunately, I have nothing witty to day but will give waves and hugs to those here already & those coming after…

  6. Aww to Mason, and aww to Jen's kitteh photos from yesterday. I'm awwing so much it sounds like purring.

Beth, is there a bracket left?? Lots of fall-downs on the right-side of that chart!

    Go Butler!

KU tonight. We may swagger through the rest of the season, but we are a humble bunch when this time of year rolls around, and we have reason to feel shy.

Jim, Dylan Thomas is one of those poets I always "mean to" study/read, and never do. Thanks for this one.

I love the photos, esp. the burping bulbs.

  7. Long day at school getting grades ready to go home and getting ready for the last grading period. I feel like the third picture. Have a good week.

  8. I hope this works:

Some photos from the march. Some of you might know of "BOHICA" he's the president of the local Veteran's for Peace. Danni's sign made into the paper. I think the kids had the best signs. Danni is standing with Malcolm also a member of VFP - he and she made the signs that required electrical tools.

  9. what movie was it where the teacher (Michelle Pfeifer?) had her students participate in the Dylan-Dylan contest? Dylan Thomas and Bob Dylan.

Janet, I find the whole thing utterly depressing from a practical, financial and most of all a MORAL point of view. Who do they think they are kidding, does anyone believe that they are doing this for anything but oil? javascript:void(0)More lives lost, more money spent, more time wasted. Ugh.

Perhaps I'll just bury myself in basketball. KU? Nooooooo! :)
