Sunday Poetry Post

Sky Stripes

Sleep Keeps Me Awake
    lyrics by Michelle Shocked

Sleep comes creeping in
At four in the morning
Sneaking up the stairs
Shoes in her hands

Don't you know what time it is?
I've been worried about you, lollie
I say the least you could do was
Phone to say you'd be late

Sleep keeps me awake all night
I wonder where she is right now
I told her if she's late to call
Or don't come home at all

Don't you know what time it is?
I've been worried about you, lollie
I say the least you could do was
Phone to say you'd be late

Last week it was one a.m.
This week is was two a.m.
Last night it was three a.m.
And tonight it's four a.m.

You never mind about that now
You come lay down beside me, lollie

Let me hold you in my arms
Let me kiss you, kiss you, lollie
Let me hold you in my arms
Let me hold you in my arms

  1. Used to have a cassette tape of her music. Haven't heard about her since - thanks for the reminder! And the picture - nothing beats colors spreading across the sky...

Raining in the Keys, but clear here. They promised we'd have rain this weekend! I wanna be a weatherman and get paid for being wrong.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I'm off to breakfast with friends, then have to decide between watching football and listening to music. (Yes, there are chores that need doing, but apparently I'm not considering doing them.)

    Happy Sunday, y'all!

  2. Love that picture, the colors are so vivid… interesting song lyrics; sleep as a girlfriend? So would you be sleeping with Sleep? Yeah, it's that kind of morning. I was up kind of early with Mason, then got the rolls I started last night into the oven. The second batch will be done shortly.

It's raining here, Beth. I'm with you, beyond the rolls there are things I'm considering not doing. Or rather, not considering doing. Right now, my primary consideration is getting myself some breakfast, preferably with lots o' coffee.

  4. Appalling weather in the north west of England but just plain wet down here in the Deep South!

Lovely pink and blue stripe picture today, thank you.

  5. I cheated. The photo isn't sunrise; it's actually a sunset shot, but for those of us who sometimes see both in a day, I figured it didn't matter.

Beth, I hope breakfast, lunch, and dinner all went well.

Farf, I think Michelle Shocked has some interesting lyrics. Look up "God is a Real Estate Developer" or her version of "Cotton Eye Joe."

I hope everyone had a peaceful Sunday. Looking forward to a three day week her in the U.S.
